Psychotherapy
Jessica Baker, LPC (License #76188)
There are times in life when we struggle with power. I define power as the ability to influence outcomes and relationships. Early in my career, I studied power dynamics, conflict, and resolution strategies. I spent time abroad in Russia, Armenia, and Nagorno-Karabakh, observing and engaging with political systems, and later worked as a political consultant supporting progressive campaigns at all levels of government. During this time, I realized that much of my focus was on having power over others, which prompted a personal journey toward understanding how to share power and lead from presence rather than control.
Through this journey, I cultivated a deeper awareness of my internal parts, learning to recognize how my intentions, fears, and protective parts shaped my interactions. I began practicing radical self-acceptance, mindfulness, and reflection, discovering how to welcome feedback and repair relationships when my impact did not align with my intentions. I developed confidence in my values and clarity in my choices, and I now approach life with an open and receptive heart. My greatest professional desire is to support clients in discovering their own inner power, increasing self-compassion, and confidently engaging in their relationships and lives.
My academic background includes undergraduate work with distinction in Philosophy, graduate studies in Political Science at the University of Colorado at Denver, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Texas State University. I have received professional training and mentorship in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, and various sex-positive therapies. I currently see clients in San Marcos and virtually (Texas residents only), offering therapy with an ACT and IFS-informed lens.
I draw inspiration from Jack Morin, Cedar Barstow, Marshall Rosenberg, Bill Plotkin, Ron Kurtz, Dick Schwartz, and Eastern philosophies. I strive to live and practice symbolically, integrating an open, compassionate, and courageous heart into every aspect of my work and life.
